Lightweight Node

Lightweight Node

A lightweight node, or light client, is a type of blockchain node that stores only a portion of the blockchain's data, making it more resource-efficient than a full node. Unlike full nodes, which download and verify the entire blockchain, lightweight nodes rely on full nodes to provide them with transaction data and block information. This makes lightweight nodes ideal for devices with limited processing power or storage capacity, such as smartphones or tablets, allowing users to interact with blockchain networks without needing the resources of a full node.

The main advantage of using a lightweight node is its efficiency. Because it doesn’t need to store the entire blockchain, a lightweight node requires significantly less disk space and processing power. This makes it more accessible for everyday users who want to participate in the blockchain network without investing in the hardware required to run a full node. Lightweight nodes are particularly useful for mobile applications, where resource constraints are a common concern.
